We love the debate, although the proof is in the listening.

It comes down to costs.

Analog certainly sounds better with its natural compression when you hit the tape at a good level.  Its certainly not common to assume you can walk into a studio any more and expect a well kept machine waiting for you.  There is an up side for engineers who don't have to align heads at the start and end of the day.Active Image

Digital certainly adds a lot of freedom to edit and be more creative with the files.  The idea of cutting a whole chorus, or trying the chorus backing vocals over the bridge long after the singers have gone home, is not a time consuming thing to try.  Cut and paste is our friend.  It does sound harsher, and some converters are worse than others, but with a line of analog pre's and compressors treating the signal on the way in, it's going to sound good.
